Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans:
"To you, Sons
of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which
we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate
soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his
virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him
glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that
the true history of the South is presented to future generations."
Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General, United Confederate
Veterans, New Orleans,
Louisiana - 1906

We of the Ohio Division are
very proud of our Confederate Heritage. Three of our Camps are named
after Ohio born Confederate heroes. Ohio has a rich Civil War heritage.
Eight of Ohio’s sons became Confederate Generals. The war first came to
Ohio in 1862, when Confederate Colonel Albert Jenkins rode into Ohio on
a raid. General John Hunt Morgan then rode through Ohio in July of
1863, and brought the War into Ohio. He suffered defeat at Buffington
Island in Meigs County.
Ohio was also the final
destination for some Confederates at prison camps located at
Camp
Chase and
Johnson’s
Island. There are Confederate Cemeteries at each site. We hold
Memorial Services at each location. Ohio has many more Confederate sites
throughout the state. It is our Duty and Honor to help preserve these
sites and we invite everyone to come to share our Confederate Heritage
here in Ohio.
